Frequently Asked Questions

Before you book

I have never rode a camel. Can I still participate?

Of course! Our well-trained staff will teach you how to get on and off and how to best communicate with your camel. We won't leave until all participants feel comfortable and confident to ride. And if any problems arise during the ride? We will be there ready to help!

Can our kids take part?

Only children over 12 years can take part on a camel ride and each participant rides their own camel. If you are taking younger children with you, we can arrange a jeep ride instead of a camel at no extra cost to you. The rest of the itinerary stays the same.

How long will we ride the camel for?

That depends on a tour you choose. However, you generally don't ride for longer than 1-1.5 hour at once. For example you get to ride for about three hours on our overnight Starry Night tour, for an hour and a half in the evening and an hour and a half in the morning.

Is it comfortable?

Quite frankly, no. But it is an amazing experience. Camels are very smart and affectionate animals although they can be pretty stubborn at times! And so despite the bumps (both on the road and on the camel), you will love the ride!

Are the camels treated well?

By taking a tour with us, you are not participating on any form of animal abuse. Our camels have access to drinking water and food when necessary, we never overload them and they get enough time off to rest. The livelihood of our ancestors has depended on these beautiful animals for hundreds of years and we still describe this relationship as "they work for us, we work for them".

What if I don’t want to sleep outside. Can you offer any alternative?

We have several options for you.

1. You can take part on our half day tour or full day tour. We spend evening in the desert but return to Jaisalmer after dinner so you can enjoy comfort of your hotel bed.

2. Book our luxury tour. You sleep in a Swiss luxury tent with all comforts of a classic hotel room such as beds and even a simple bathroom.

3. If you like the idea of camping in the desert but you are really worried about being cold at night or just want a bit more privacy, we can arrange classic camping tent for you. However, we have a limited amount of tents so the first comes, first takes. Let us know during booking if you are interested in this option.

I want to go on camel safari but I don’t like any of your tours. Can you offer any other tours?

Absolutely! Message us what you would like to see/do on our tours and how much time you would like to spend in the desert and we can create a tailor-made itinerary just for you!

Before you book

What will I need on the tour?

We recommend taking sunglasses, sunscreen, toilet paper and other personal hygiene items, torch (for overnight tours) and any kind of entertainment you like for the evening such as cards or a book.

What clothes will I need?

For day tours: wear long sleeves and long trousers but opt for light breathable materials such as cotton, linen or silk. You might also want to consider taking a headscarf or another type of head cover.

It doesn't get too cold at night but we recommend taking a light jumper and warm socks. During cooler months of December, January and February you might want to consider warmer jumper and a hat.

Do you cater for special diets?

Yes, we do. All our food is vegetarian, vegan&gluten-free options are also available. If you have any other special requirements regarding food, please contact us here. We can also adjust spiciness to your liking as we know not everyone is a fan of hot food!

I am nervous coming to Jaisalmer. Can you assist with my accommodation or transport?

We can help you to book your hotel inside of the city fort and arrange a reliable tuk tuk driver to pick you up from the bus/railway station. Also, we provide pick-ups from anywhere in Jaisalmer before your tour.

After the tour

I really loved your tour. Can I write a review for you?

Yes, absolutely. You can write a review for us at Tripadvisor or just message us here and tell us what you think. We are constantly trying to improve our services and would love to hear your feedback!

What else can I do in Jaisalmer?

Of course, we are very pleased if you decide to spend a few extra days in our beautiful city! You cannot miss the city fort, beautiful temples, Bada Bagh Mausoleum or Patwaon-Ki-Haveli. Visit local markets, indulge in delicious local food or spend a day shopping in colourful shops dotted around the city.
